OUR BREEDING PROGRAM

"for happy and healthy free range Frenchies"

We are doing more to improve health and proud to be working in gene action programs led by the Master Dog Breeders and Associates (MDBA).  As one of the first breeders in the world working towards eliminating the screw tail gene (DVL2) in April 2024, we produced the world's first zero copy screwtail purbred French Bulldogs. Researchers have identified DVL2 mutation as the cause of the formed spinal vertebrae (hemivertebrae) present in over 93% of French Bulldogs.  Furthermore, current evidence suggests DVL2 may contribute to several other health issues including congenital heart defects, brain tumors and Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS).

Spine health is a major goal in our program and we are committed  to clearing the CDDY mutation on Chromosome 12  in our breeding dogs, this mutation is the genetic cause of degenerative changess to the space between the vertebrae  resulting in Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD). IVDD (Hansen Type 1) accounts for up t0 45% of neurological disorders diagnosed in French Bulldogs.
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) is a primary health concern with over 45% of Bulldogs having clinically significant signs of BOAS. Our breeding dogs are now Respiratory Functional Grade Assessed for BOAS and we are proud to have exceptional results with no BOAS detected.  We are also currently working on eliminating the airway oedema gene (ADAMTS3) which has been linked to breathing problems in another breed and may contribute to breathing problems in French Bulldogs.  We Guarantee all our puppies to never be affected by ADAMTS3.
Research has clearly identified that extreme features such as flat faces, pinched nares, thick necks, screwtails and short bodies result in profound health issues that shorten their lives  and cause suffering for an unacceptable percentage of French Bulldogs. Our breeding dogs all have longer snouts and natural open nares, with more moderate features.  Because their spines are free of hemivertebrae (deformed vertebrae) they are slightly longer  with varying tail lengths.
We follow the recommendations of the Australian Veterinary Associations (AVA) Brachycephalic Breeding Policy whilst aiming to meet the French Bulldog breed standard as closely as we can without compromising the health, longevity or wellbeing of our puppies.   https://www.ava.com.au/policy-advocacy/policies/companion-animals-health/brachycephalic-dog-breeding/
